How to play Palace Escape

Palace Escape is a 3D adventure platformer in the spirit of the classic swashbuckling cave and palace runs. You start in a dungeon cell with no weapon and must reach the exit door of each of four levels: the dungeon, the palace halls, the moonlit rooftops and the throne room of the Grand Vizier. Running jumps cross pits, ledges can be grabbed and climbed, floor spikes pop out on a timer, slicer blades close on a rhythm and pressure plates raise gates. Once you find the scimitar you can duel the palace guards by striking, blocking and parrying. Fast, clean runs earn a time bonus.

• Arrow keys or A / D to run, Up or Space to jump and to climb a ledge
• X or J to strike with the sword, Down or C to block (block just as a guard swings to parry)
• Hold Shift to creep: you will not step off an edge
• Esc or P to pause
• Touch: on-screen arrows, Jump, Strike and Block buttons

Tips for a higher score

• Run up to the edge and jump from the very last tile: a running jump clears three empty tiles, a standing one does not.
• Hold the direction toward a ledge while you jump to grab it, then press Up to climb. Press Down to let go.
• Hold Shift to creep. You will stop at the edge instead of walking off, which is the safe way to approach spikes and pits.
• Watch a guard's raised sword: when it comes down, block at that moment to parry, which stuns the guard so you can cut them down.
• Loose floor tiles drop shortly after you stand on them, so cross them without stopping, and touch the braziers to set a checkpoint.
