An archery adventure through the story of the Ramayana. As Shri Ram, with Shri Lakshman Ji beside you, you hold the line against the rakshasas of the Dandaka forest, hunt the golden deer Maricha, defend the shore while the great bridge to Lanka rises, and storm the gates against the giant Kumbhakarna and Indrajit. Aim with the mouse, hold to draw the bow and let go: a longer draw flies faster and hits harder, and a full draw pierces through two foes. Headshots count double. Kills and hits fill your divine power, which you spend on the Agneyastra fire arrow, the Vayavyastra wind that hurls the enemy back, the Nagastra serpent arrow that bursts into binding snakes, the Suryastra sunlight that strengthens every shot, the thunderbolts of Vajra and the mighty Brahmastra, while Hanuman Ji rushes in with his mace every half minute. Jump the shockwaves, pick up healing herbs and save the Brahmastra for the final battle with ten-headed Ravana, whose heads grow back until his navel lies open. Or leave the story behind and play Free Roam: an open world from Ayodhya to Lanka where you walk and aim in every direction, free rakshasa camps, meet Sage Agastya Ji, Mata Shabari, Jatayu Ji, Sugriva Ji, Hanuman Ji, Nala and Vibhishana Ji, muster and command a vanara army, raise the Setu across the sea and lead the great war against Kumbhakarna, Indrajit and Ravana. Made with respect for the Ramayana: the playable mechanics, Free Roam and the camps are creative additions to the traditional account, and traditions tell some episodes differently.

How to play The Rama

The Rama: Lanka Yuddha is an archery adventure told through five chapters of the epic. You play Shri Ram, bow in hand, with Shri Lakshman Ji at your side. Hold the Dandaka forest, chase down the golden deer Maricha, defend the shore while the bridge to Lanka is built, break Kumbhakarna and Indrajit at the gates, and finally face the ten-headed Ravana. Your arrows arc under gravity, divine astras turn the tide and Hanuman Ji charges in on call. The game is made with respect for the Ramayana; its playable powers and Free Roam are creative additions, and traditions tell some episodes differently.

  • Move the mouse to aim; hold the left button to draw the bow and release to loose the arrow
  • A / D or the arrow keys move, Space or W jumps over shockwaves and charging foes
  • 1 Agneyastra (fire arrow), 2 Vayavyastra (wind), 3 Nagastra (serpent arrow), 4 Suryastra (sunlight), 5 Vajra (thunder), 6 Brahmastra (needs full divine power), H calls Hanuman Ji
  • P or Esc pauses
  • Free Roam: WASD walk in any direction, mouse aims, Space dashes, E talks to people, R rally cry, Z / X / C order your army to follow, charge or hold
  • Touch: drag to aim and lift to shoot; use the on-screen arrows, Jump and astra buttons (in Free Roam, drag the left side to walk)

Tips for a higher score

  • Hold the draw all the way for a fast, hard arrow that pierces two enemies. Lead moving targets and use the dotted arc to judge the drop.
  • Headshots do double damage and fell most rakshasas in one arrow. Aim at the top of the body, not the middle.
  • Jump over the ground shockwaves from Kumbhakarna and Ravana. Walk back when a brute closes in, since it only hits when you are within reach.
  • Nagastra splits into serpents that bind everything they touch, so fire it at a crowd. Suryastra sunlight makes every arrow hit 50% harder and stops Indrajit vanishing, and Vajra calls five thunderbolts on the nearest foes.
  • In Free Roam, follow the gold arrow at the screen edge: free three camps, meet Hanuman Ji, muster eight vanaras with Sugriva Ji, then ask Nala to raise the Setu. Kumbhakarna and Indrajit must fall before Ravana can be hurt, and his navel glows briefly during the fight.
  • Save the Brahmastra for bosses. Ravana's heads grow back, but when six lie fallen at once his navel glows, and one arrow or the Brahmastra there ends the fight.
  • Pick up the green healing herbs that fall from brutes, and call Hanuman Ji whenever a crowd reaches you. He is ready again in 24 seconds.
